International recognition for women of the “Buen Pastor” prison who participated in the School Enterprise Challenge

A group of women inmates of the Buen Pastor penitentiary, from the Centro de Educación Media para Personas Jóvenes y Adultas N° 138, and who participated in the School Enterprise Challenge promoted in Paraguay by the Fundación Paraguaya, received an international recognition within the framework of the competition organized in this case, by the international organization, Teach a Man To Fisch (School Enterprise Challenge 2020).

Martín Burt, the director of Fundación Paraguaya, said that they worked with the Ministry of Justice to make the participation of the inmates possible, so that they can have a job, thinking about reintegration into society, and that it is intended to bring the same contest to other prisons in the country. “We`re very happy with the impact that the program has had, and we are trying -with the logistical support of the Directorate of Social Reintegration- to be able to take the School Enterprise Challenge and other programs to the 15 prisons in Paraguay,” he said.

“We were the only representatives of Paraguay and when the students found out about the achievement, they were quite excited because 2020 was a difficult year, but we still had a very positive result and we were able to show that, within the walls, there is also a good educational quality”, emphasized Wilfrida Cristaldo, director of the Centro de Educación Media para Personas Jóvenes y Adultas N° 138.

The recognition to the group was for the business model promoted by the women, consisting of the production of cleaning products.
